Why We Built Kernlo
When we decided to homeschool, we quickly realized something: teaching our kids wasn't going to be the hard part. Keeping track of everything was.
Like many new homeschool families, we were excited about the flexibility and opportunity to be more involved in our children's education. But we quickly started asking: How do we remember everything they worked on? How do we organize projects and activities? How do we keep track of hours? How do we save important work samples? How do we make sure we have the records we need?
We live in Texas, where homeschool requirements are relatively simple compared to many states. But even without strict reporting requirements, we realized that without a system, we would spend our evenings trying to reconstruct our homeschool days.
We didn't want another complicated planner. We didn't want another spreadsheet. We wanted something simple: a place where we could quickly tell someone what happened during the day, and everything else would stay organized.
We weren't trying to build a homeschool curriculum or tell families how to homeschool. We simply needed a better way to keep track of our own homeschool journey.
So we built Kernlo for our own family. A simple way to log learning moments as they happen, keep track of progress, save memories and evidence, and have homeschool records organized without adding more work to our day.
As we built it, we realized: If we needed this as a new homeschool family, other families probably did too. Especially families in states with more record-keeping requirements, portfolio reviews, attendance requirements, or transcript needs.
Our goal is simple: Parents should spend their time teaching their children — not buried in paperwork.
Your family's learning stays yours.
